Learning
Our focus is on individualised learning to meet the needs of every student. All students have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that has specific learning goals across WA Curriculum areas.
At Burbridge School we teach students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Whilst the focus of the primary and secondary curricula differ, we maintain an emphasis on learning appropriate behaviour, communication and independence skills across the school.
Across the Primary and Secondary Curriculum (Kindergarten to Year 12) students learn across a range of areas including:
-
English
-
Mathematics
-
Science
-
Technologies
-
Humanities and Social Science
-
The Arts
-
Health and Physical Education
Classes at Burbridge School are small with high ratios of student to teachers and education assistants. All teachers are trained in special education and many of our education assistants have years of experience in special education. Classes are generally highly structured with a strong focus on positive behaviour support.
These factors ensure that your child will receive individual instruction from specialised teachers and education assistants as well as group instruction. Your child will also be given the opportunity to progress through the curriculum in the best possible learning environment.
All learning is individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are written in collaboration with parents, teachers and therapists.
Individual Transition Plans (ITPs) are written for students from Year 10 and beyond, again in collaboration with the parents and relevant stakeholders.
IEPs and ITPs outline priority education goals for a student over a six month period. Parents are valued partners in the IEP and ITP process and are encouraged to contribute at all stages.
