Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 3! We hope you all had a restful break and are ready for another exciting term of learning and growth.
We’d like to begin by apologising for the pool being out of action at the start of the term. The issue has now been resolved, and we’re pleased to let you know that swimming and hydrotherapy programs can recommence. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
We’re delighted to introduce two new staff members to our Burbridge community for Semester Two: Ciara and Orla. Ciara has a varied role in being the junior DOTT teacher for Areas A and D early in the week before becoming the senior schoolteacher on Thursday and Friday. Orla will commence in the coming weeks joining Area C2 with Michelle and being the DOTT teacher for Area ILC. Both teachers bring a wealth of experience in education support and a passion for supporting diverse learners. We’re thrilled to have them on board and look forward to the wonderful contributions they’ll make.
At the same time, we also say goodbye to Kylie and Dorothy. Dorothy is venturing off on maternity leave and has been a dedicated member of the Area C2 team. Kylie has been a valued member of the Burbridge community for the past six and a half years. In this time, she has taught many classes and fulfilled several whole school roles. Kylie is heading off to a primary education support centre where she’ll be taking on a new challenge and building on her experience. We wish both Kylie and Dorothy all the very best in their next chapters.
A quick reminder to families: student reports were sent home at the end of Term 2. If you haven’t received yours, please contact the front office. Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are currently being finalised and will be sent home shortly. These plans are an important part of our collaborative approach to supporting each student’s unique learning journey.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support. We’re looking forward to a fantastic Term 3 together!
Warm regards,
Joanne Gordon
Area A
We have had a great start to Term 3 in Area A! Despite the chilly and rainy weather, students have been keeping to their routines and staying focused on their learning.
One of the highlights from Week 1 was our engaging Maths lesson on patterns. Students had a lot of fun exploring patterns using the Penguin Ice Mat game — a hands-on activity that sparked curiosity and excitement. Their active participation was wonderful to see!
We’re incredibly proud of the effort students are putting in each day and look forward to what the rest of the term will bring.

Area C2
The students in C2 celebrated World Tiger Day on 29th July. We enjoyed reading the book ‘Don’t Wake the Tiger’ by Britta Teckentrup. In Mathematics, we practised number recognition and used sensory play materials, candles and sprinkles to make cupcakes for the ‘Tigers' birthday party’. For our craft activity, we followed visual instructions to create our own tiger crafts using paper plates, orange and black paint and markers. We also watched some videos about tigers and shared interesting facts about these magnificent animals. During our writing lesson, we cut out words to form sentences and made a class information book all about tigers.

Area D
We’re thrilled to share that Term 3 has started on a high note in Area D. Students returned with bright smiles and eager hearts, ready to dive into learning. The classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as students enthusiastically participated in sensory activities, MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education), and a variety of curriculum-based programs.
It’s heartwarming to see both staff and students happy to be back, setting the stage for a productive and joyful term ahead. We look forward to continued growth, learning, and fun throughout Term 3!

Bowling in Area F
Area F have started practising their throwing skills for Sports this term by playing games of table-top ten-pin bowling in the afternoon. Some students are practising on taking turns and other students are practising their under-arm throw. They will be super bowlers in no time, knocking down those pins and getting strikes.
What awesome throws, Area F! 😊

Burbridge Bites
Burbridge Bites 2025 began toward the end of Term 2. We have been very busy making delicious pizzas and scrumptious choc chip cookies for students and staff to enjoy.
We set ourselves the target of raising enough funds from this enterprise to purchase the Burbridge Leavers Jackets for both our 2024 and 2025 graduating students by the end of the school year.
I am delighted to announce that we have raised enough funds so far to cover the costs of our three-year 12 graduating students. We are excited to present these at the first assembly of Term 3.
Area GH would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for supporting Burbridge Bites and hope to continue our success and reach our goal of 10 jackets this year!
Colette Bailey - Area GH Teacher

Area ILC
This term Area ILC are learning about CVC words. We use the letter of the day and letter dice to create CVC words. We then sound out the words using light switches and discuss if it is a real word or not. Students have enjoyed taking it in turns to roll the dice and use stamps to write the words on their worksheets.
